CDCR Graduates 181 Cadets from its Academy

CDCR announced that its Basic Correctional Officer Academy (BCOA) graduated 181 cadets according to their website on August 24, 2022.

The new CDCR cadets were welcomed into CDCR by Warden Heather Shirley in the keynote address to the graduates.  Warden Shirley is presides over the Wasco State Prison.

The Academy is a 13 week program which is takes place at the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center in Galt, California.

The attitude fostered by the program is focus on pride, discipline, respect and teamwork as reported by CDCR.

According to CDCR, the Basic Correctional Officer Academy has preparatory training that focuses on situations that officers could experience in a prison environment.  The training consists of (and not limited to) physical fitness, arrest and control, communication with techniques to de-escalate situations, firearm training, chemical agent training.
